The Essex gallery of 14 outdoor murals has brought visitors from far and wide. Featured are a group of outstanding Canadian muralists. Such names as Brian Romagnoli, Dan Sawatsky,and John Hood have signed their work in Essex. Everyone has their favourites including a tribute by our Dutch community to the Liberation of Holland by Canadian forces in 1944-45. Essex wasn’t always so peaceful as Milica Yaksich’s Fiery Rebellion depiction of the burning of the tollgates in 1896 shows. Endangered Species by prominent Canadian artist and Essex resident Ron Suchiu reminds us of D-Day as a Spitfire piloted by our own Jerry Billing prepares to engage the German Luftwaffe. Sports in Essex on the wall of Essex District High School by Dan Lessard portrays the town’s contribution to professional and amateur sports.
